The challenge to rebrand Fourteen

14 Grays’ Inn Chambers previously had a chaotic and dated website. It was neither easy for users of the website to find the information they needed, nor was it possible for Chambers to effectively make updates to the site. A complete overhaul was required.

Our approach

With Chambers’ name traditionally tied to its address, Mash rebranded 14 Gray’s Inn Square to FOURTEEN to give them a more distinct name and identity. This was reinforced by a new domain name – fourteen.co.uk – which Mash secured on its clients behalf.

The design solution needed to be bold. Within the logo, there is a hidden numeral 14 making up the initial ‘F’ of FOURTEEN, and this unexpected twist, has followed throughout the brand with idiosyncratic illustrative style and vivid colour palette.

Clear messaging was introduced to more clearly define the ethos of chambers supported by illustrations that were full of wit and character. The illustrations formed a resource of original imagery that was then used in exhibition graphics and across a number of printed and digital publications for chambers.

The results

The website launched to acclaim in both the design and legal spheres. The rebrand was featured in Design Week, and various online blogs. Twitter comments included,

Social media is at the heart of the new Fourteen website with the option to share all key content. Fourteen are also very proactive in their use of Twitter and since the rebrand, Fourteen is now the third most followed family law chambers.
